Rat Preovulatory Follicle
Laser scanning confocal photomicrograph of a rat preovulatory follicle showing an oocyte surrounded by granulosa cells within the antral cavity. An individual section of an ovarian follicle is stained with Yo-Pro-1 (Molecular Probes). Whole ovary tissue was fixed in paraformaldehyde, dehydrated in 100% MEOH and cleared in BABB. The focal plane in these pictures was optically sliced at the point of the oocyte’s nucleolus. Magnification is 100x. Images were taken with a 10x (NA 0.3) objective using a Chroma Triple Dichroic filter and a Barrier filter 532/22 on a Leica confocal microscope.
